Girl Geeks get ready for Feb 21st Dinner in JHB!

The countdown has begun for the next fabulous Girl Geek Dinner in Johannesburg! On February 21st, 2012,  about 75 like-minded, tech-savvy, influential women (and men) will meet at Higher Ground Restaurant in Sandton, to indulge in a little networking, canapes and informative talks.

Girl Geek Dinners were founded on August 16th, 2005, as a result of one girl geek who got annoyed and frustrated at being one of the only females attending the various tech-savvy events available. She wanted to create a relaxed networking event where women (and men) could interact and socialise with like-minded individuals, over a few cocktails and canapes, while learning about the latest technological buzz and trends in social media and marketing. The concept took the world by storm and Girl Geek Dinners are now held in over 32 countries, and 99 cities! South Africa soon jumped on the bandwagon, with the Girl Geek Dinners starting in Cape Town in 2010, followed closely by Johannesburg, in 2011.  The first Girl Geek Dinner, Johannesburg, was held in November of 2011 and was a raging success, with guests enjoying exciting tips from guest speaker, Shana Kay, who is a Senior Business Analyst at AVUSA and CEO of Infointeg.

Our speaker for this month’s Girl Geek Dinner, is the fabulous Lana Strydom, who heads up Digital Marketing and Media for FNB. She is going to share with us about FNB’s social media strategy and how they are using it to engage with consumers, attract new clients and stay ahead of the ever changing online era. We also have Tiana Cline who is the online editor for Girl Guides and she will be doing a few tech reviews of the latest and greatest gadget must-have’s. Guests can expect to be updated and informed about the latest happenings in the world of technology, as well as how to incorporate the constantly evolving social media options successfully into their businesses and various marketing and media campaigns. After the speeches, guests will have the chance to network and socialise over a delectable variety of mouth-watering canapes and cocktails and then… the best part! After a fantastic night of hobnobbing , learning, and indulging, guests will be given the much anticipated goodie bag, that is Girl Geeks way of saying thank you for joining us! Every month the contents of the goodie bag is a surprise, but we can tell you that November’s bag was filled with Cleo Magazine, Lindt Chocolate, Intaba tea, Suntra nailpolishes, and a stunning Yuppie Chef voucher, to name a few!

Spaces are limited and tickets sell fast, so make sure that you secure your seat at Jozi’s next hottest event, the next Girl Geek Dinner and expect to be wowed, spoilt and just blown away! This is the perfect opportunity to broaden your business and tech knowledge, while indulging in all things girly and geeky! We hope you are as excited as we are! See you there!

    Awesome initiative!
I assume the majority of the people attending will be women eventhough you mention men will be attending – are you running anything like this in Cape Town? I would like to attend!

Also, another speaker you might wanna think of is Kirsty Prangley – She is a specialist for Investec, currently managing a huge development project, also managed the development of the ABSA site…

    • Thank you!

The event is aimed at women, but men are welcome to join. Our events our Johannesburg based, there is a Cape Town event which is run separately, visit their wordpress site: Girl Geek Dinners Cape Town.

Thanks for the speaker tip and support!
