The first Girl Geek Dinner in Johannesburg took place on Thursday 3 November at the amazing Moyo Zoo Lake. The Dinners were brought to Johannesburg after seeing a gap in the JHB networking scene for women in industry.
The aim of the dinners is to bring together women (and men) in technology and business in a fun, relaxed setting. The Dinner was designed as a cocktail evening allowing people an opportunity to network with each other throughout the evening.
A big thank you must go out to our first guest speaker, the fabulous Shana Kay. Shana is currently a Senior Business Analyst at AVUSA and CEO of Infointeg. With an exciting career in the world of technology, Shana shared some of her tips for making it in business and stressed the importance of having a mentor. Girl Geek Dinners was thrilled to have Shana as our first guest speaker and look forward to her continued support as the event continues to grow from strength to strength.
Another highlight of the event was the wonderful food served up by Moyo. There were vegetarian, meat, chicken and a dessert platter which was enjoyed by everyone. The service was impeccable and this is a venue not to be missed.
A Girl Geek event is not complete without a Goodie Bag and this would not be possible without our fantastic sponsors: Cleo Magazine SA, Lindt Chocolate, Suntra Nail Polish, Erin Smylie Hair and Make-up artist, our DJ Liam Walsh from Pulse DJ’s, Yuppiechef and stunning tea’s from Intaba Tea.
That was not all, some lovely prizes were given away – Shana brought some fabulous goodies from Microsoft, FM magazines and some great books. A make-up lesson was given away by the fabulous Erin Smylie and amazing tea hampers from Intaba Tea.
The event would not have been captured without the skills of our fabulous photographer Nanet Skead, also thanks to Pulse DJs and Worker Ant for assistance with our branding and presentation requirements.
Thanks to everyone that joined us and tweeted about the event. We met some stunning people and look forward to building even stronger relationships in 2012. The next event will take place on the 21st of February…we look forward to seeing you there!
